Over Ambro Louwe

Ambro’s play

Born November 7, 1947 in Beverwijk, the Netherlands.

Raised in an artistic environment and safe within the boundaries and ideals of my parents. Concerned, civilised, skilled. My father's dream was to be a musician. My parents decided to follow this path. Their faith and music made them endure poverty. They loved me.

I experienced life as a miracle while relaxing and playing, enjoying movement, sounds and images.

From an early age on I scribbled and copied the pictures of paintings by the great masters. While my father was studying the piano, I eagerly read one biography after another: Rembrandt, Michelangelo, Da Vinci, Bach etc. etc. What a life they had!

It was only when I left home that I discovered new worlds, exciting ideas. A world that changed at a great speed. Many new, fantastic roads have opened up in recent decades. So much has been discovered and built on the shoulders of our predecessors.

My work is therefore a journey of searching and finding: in sculptures in which I explore the shapes through my hands in a realistic way, paintings of inner landscapes and also just playing with materials and colors.

I am a father and grandfather. I worked as a teacher in Holland and abroad, director, taichi trainer,  as a coach and in the theater as a director playing with language and images from the subconscious mind. Sometimes I prefer one way, sometimes the other. Constantly discovering, searching and creating. I recognize, admire and enjoy the work of many and ask questions. I have the freedom to just be. Enjoying the opportunity of being human in order to express myself about the miracles of life. Stripped of academicism or other pressure, I can explore the world as an autodidact.
