About Carl Dennis

Carl Dennis

Carl describes his artistic expression as having an affinity to the work of earlier abstract surrealists, drawing upon spontaneous, subconscious sources for imagery and themes. His techniques use mixed media simulating the fragmented surfaces and play of light of stained glass.
Recurring motifs are taken from nature , the female form, dancing figures, and sacred symbolism. Carl's experiments with color and texture owe much to the precedents of George Rodney and Owen Beckford.

Carl attended Norman Manley Secondary School, and also studied Small Business Ownership and Management at the then Entrepreneurial Centre at CAST, now UTech, Jamaica. He took art classes at Edna Manley School for Visual and Performing Arts, with private studies at the Studio of Owen Beckford. He has won several medals in JCDC Art and Photography Competitions, including a Silver Medal and the Jamaica 40th award.
