About the work

Bert created this painting after visiting the Église Saint-Étienne while staying with friends in Clémont (Sologne, France) in October 2021.

The painting shows a view through a double window in the side portal of the church.

The Church of Saint-Etienne in Clémont is a church from the early 15th century. Later the nave was widened and at the end of the same century the aisles were added. The bell tower was built in 1587. The church is located in the heart of the Sologne countryside, a beautiful region of central France with forests and fens. Built with local limestone, the church still has all of its original frame, with the exception of the bell tower spire.
