I have addressed this topic several times before.
Images of parents who died many years ago.
And if you don't look at the picture, the image is different all the time. You remember your parents at different ages. In different moods, at different times of the year. And what happens to you when you remember them? And your age doesn't stand still, either. And all of this together forms a bizarre image of their generation. 
Sometimes it's specific people, and sometimes it's just men and women from that era.
I have to admit that I'm partial to retro. This is also because it was my parents' time. The time of my childhood.
